Nvidia sued for stolen data shown by mistake in a video call with Microsoft
- Nvidia engineer Mohammad Moniruzzaman accidentally shared stolen trade secrets during a video call with his former employer, Valeo.
- Valeo is suing Nvidia for using the stolen trade secrets to develop its own parking and driving assistance software.
- Nvidia claims it was unaware of Moniruzzaman's theft and has taken steps to protect Valeo's rights.
Valeo Schalter und Sensoren GmbH, the German arm of French firm Valeo, has filed a lawsuit against Nvidia, alleging that the tech giant stole trade secrets from the company. The lawsuit claims that Nvidia engineer Mohammad Moniruzzaman stole gigabytes of data from Valeo in 2021, including the source code for its parking and driving assistance software.
In March 2022, Moniruzzaman accidentally shared the stolen data during a video call with a team from Valeo. The Valeo team immediately recognized the code and took screenshots. Moniruzzaman was subsequently convicted by German authorities of unlawfully holding the data.
Valeo is now seeking significant damages from Nvidia and wants the court to make an injunction prohibiting Nvidia and its affiliates from using Valeo's code.
Nvidia has denied any wrongdoing and claims it was unaware of Moniruzzaman's theft. The company has also taken steps to protect Valeo's rights.
The lawsuit is still ongoing and it is unclear what the outcome will be. However, the case raises important questions about the security of intellectual property and the potential consequences of data theft.
